  26. Special Version 1.5 Installation Notes
  27. ═══════════════════════════════════════
  28. There has been a hardware change to the TBS-2000 for version 1.5 that should
  29. make configuring the card much easier.  Originally, the TBS-2000 needed 3
  30. IRQ's to function in Windows 95.  It was difficult on certain systems to
  31. allocate that many IRQ's to one card.  A change was made to the EEPROM on the
  32. card to allow the card to use only 2 IRQ's, freeing the third for other
  33. devices in your system.  This was done by disabling the IRQ in the MPU-401
  34. driver.  This IRQ is only used for MIDI Input to the TBS-2000.  The MIDI
  35. Input capability is only needed if you are connecting an external MIDI
  36. keyboard or other MIDI controller to the TBS-2000 via a MIDI Adapter.  MIDI
  37. Output will not be affected by this change (i.e. DOS/WIndows 95 games,
  38. multimedia apps, etc.)  If you do need the MIDI Input capability, the
  39. procedure for re-enabling the device is shown below.

  41. Enabling MIDI Input on the TBS-2000 (Windows 95)
  42. ════════════════════════════════════════════════
  43. 1. Enter Windows 95 and click on the "My Computer" icon with the RIGHT mouse
  44.    button and select 'Properties.'
  45. 2. Choose "Device Manager" and double-click on "Sound, Video, and Game
  46.    Controllers."
  47. 3. Double-click on the "MPU-401 Compatible" driver and select "Resources."
  48. 4. Un-check the "Use Automatic Settings" box and change the "Setting based on"
  49.    field from 'Basic configuration 0000' to 'Basic configuration 0001.'
  50. 5. An 'Interrupt Request' option will appear in the 'Resource settings'
  51.    window.
  52. 6. Verify that the default IRQ for the MPU-401 is not conflicting with any
  53.    other devices in the system by looking at the 'Conflicting device
  54.    list.'
  55. 7. If another device is trying to use the same IRQ as the MPU-401, double
  56.    click on the 'Interrupt Request' and cycle through the choices until
  57.    you find an Interrupt that reports 'No devices are conflicting.'
  58. 8. Press 'OK' to save the changes.  You may need to reboot for the changes to
  59.    take effect.

  102. Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, and Windows for Workgroups Installation Note
  103. ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
  104. If you are performing TBS-2000's DOS installation program, be sure you are 
  105. starting from a native DOS prompt, and not a MS-DOS box. Installing from the 
  106. enhanced mode DOS box will lead your Windows to repeatedly crash.

  108. Installing the TBS-2000 in Windows 95
  109. ═════════════════════════════════════
  110. The TBS-2000 is fully Plug and Play compatible.  Please follow the 
  111. instructions outlined in the manual for Windows 95 installation.

  113. TBS-2000 Applications in Windows 95
  114. ═══════════════════════════════════
  115. Most of the applications supplied with the TBS-2000 work in the Windows 95 
  116. environment. There are some exceptions as noted:
  117.  
  118. 1. The Sierra audio rack does not work in Stealth mode.
  119.  
  120. 2. Microwave may cause problems when used as an OLE server.
  121.  
  122. 3. The Turtle Beach CD player shows a white rectangle to the right of the 
  123. main controls. This does not affect the operation of the program.
  124.     
  125. Low Priority on the TB Mixer
  126. ════════════════════════════
  127. In general, you will not need to use the "Low Priority Input" button on 
  128. the TB Mixer.  There are a few applications (such as "Voice Pilot," 
  129. included with the Windows Sound System software) that make use of the input 
  130. levels shown after clicking on the Low Priority Input button, but most 
  131. applications do not. If you wish to set input levels for applications such as 
  132. Sound Recorder, Quick Recorder, Wave SE, or MicroWave, click on the 
  133. Wave Input button and adjust the levels shown.

  135. MicroWave and OLE
  136. ═════════════════
  137. MicroWave is functionally compatible with OLE 1.0, and with the identical 
  138. functions in OLE 2.0. However, MicroWave will not function with OLE 2.0 
  139. specific calls.

  142. Problems Recording or Playing Back .WAV Audio
  143. ═════════════════════════════════════════════
  144. If you are experiencing problems recording or playing back .WAV audio, 
  145. enter the Windows Control Panel and open the Drivers section (Win 3.1x) or 
  146. open the System icon in the Control Panel (Win95). TBS-2000 driver and choose 
  147. Half Duplex. Restart your machine and try recording or playing back .WAV 
  148. audio.  NOTE: In this configuration, simultaneous .WAV record and playback is 
  149. not available.

  151. Recording Through Multiple Inputs

  153. Although TBS-2000 has multiple inputs, you can only record through one audio 
  154. input at a time.

  156. Using the Line In Jack on TBS-2000

  158. If you are using headphone out jack on your CD-ROM drive through the Line In 
  159. jack on the back of TBS-2000, you may notice that the volume is quite loud. 
  160. To remedy this, adjust the output level on the input mixer or turn down the 
  161. volume knob on your CD-ROM drive.

  206. 1. Once my installation was completed, I was unable to boot into Windows 3.1x.

  210. Chances are, you have a hardware conflict with another card in your system.
  211. Boot into DOS and enter C:\TBEACH\DOSAPPS. Once in the TBEACH\DOSAPPS 
  212. directory, type TBSDIAG. This will run the DOS diagnostics. Run the 
  213. diagnostics and write down the settings that fail (Marked in red in TBSDIAG). 
  214. Insert your TBS-2000 drivers disk in your floppy drive and type 'Install.' 
  215. Select 'Configure' from the Main menu and change the settings that were 
  216. failing diagnostics.  After the configuration procedure, reboot the system 
  217. and try TBSDIAG again.  Repeat this procedure until you find working 
  218. settings.

  232. appropriate levels. Type TBSMIX  /? at the command line prompt to see the 
  233. available options. Once in the TBSMIXER, the WAVE slider controls sound
  234. effects and the SYNTH slider controls MIDI music (both FM and Wavetable).

  243. The TBS-2000 has two synthesizers built on to the board:  An OPL3, FM
  244. Synthesizer and the ICS WaveFront, Wavetable Synthesizer.  For more realistic,
  245. sampled sounds, you should use the wavetable synthesizer.  Most games have a
  246. separate choice for "Music Device" or "Music Board."  You should choose 
  247. General Midi, Roland MPU-401, or Waveblaster.  The port setting you select
  248. should correspond to the MPU-401 I/O setting in the TBSDIAG program (in the 
  249. TBEACH\DOSAPPS directory).  The default value is 330.

  273. 'Save' to keep the settings.

  275. You can also insert default volume levels in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file with the 
  276. TBSMIX utility. Type TBSMIX /? in the TBEACH/DOSAPPS directory for the

  308. 2. When I am preparing to record and I want to check the levels in the mixer,

  314. The Turtle Beach mixer is designed for maximum user control. One capability
  315. allows you to switch between Master Out and Wave Input and hear the audio 
  316. signal as output and input simultaneously. This means you can mute the sound 
  317. in Master Out and switch to Wave Input to adjust the signal to an appropriate 
  318. level for recording. This capability may lead to a slight phase shift in your 
  319. output, but it will not be detectable in any .WAV file recording.

  340. The first step in solving this problem is to see when the lock-up
  341. happens.  To do this, reboot your system and hit the F8 key when the
  342. "Starting Windows 95" message appears.  You will see a menu of choices;
  343. choose "Step by Step Confirmation."  Answer Y to the individual lines and
  344. try to isolate the line that is locking the system.  If the TBS2000.EXE line
  345. is causing the system to lock, either move it to the top of the Config.sys
  346. or make sure that EMM386.EXE is not being loaded.  You can edit the
  347. Config.sys by choosing F8 and entering Win95 in Safe Mode.  If the computer
  348. locks on another line, use the troubleshooting procedure in the manual for
  349. assistance.

  354. 3. I chose not to install the TBS-2000 gameport, but now there is a yellow
  355.    symbol next to "TBS-2000" in the Device Manager section of my System icon.

  359. Since the TBS-2000 is a Plug and Play card, all four of the devices on
  360. the hardware are detected by Windows 95 (TBS-2000 PnP hardware, TBS-2000
  361. WaveFront Synthesizer, Microsoft compatible Gameport and Microsoft MPU-
  362. 401).  By using the yellow symbol in the Device Manager, Windows 95 is 
  363. simply telling you that you have chosen not to install a possible Plug and 
  364. Play device.

  384.    do I uninstall the card in Windows 95 so I can start from scratch.

  388. We have provided a "Cleanup" INF file on your TBS-2000 installation disk that
  389. will remove the TBS-2000 files from Windows 95.  The file is called
  390. CLEANTBS.INF and is located in the \CLEANTBS directory on the TBS-2000
  391. installation disk.  This file clears out all "media-related" devices from
  392. Windows 95, so caution should be used before you run this INF.  If you
  393. already have another Sound Card in the system, do not use this file unless
  394. you are willing to re-install the other Sound Card after removing the media
  395. devices.

  397.         Using the CLEANTBS.INF
  398.     1.  Insert your TBS-2000 installation disk in your Floppy drive.
  399.     2.  Click on 'My Computer' and double-click on your Floppy drive.
  400.         3.  Double-click on the /CLEANTBS directory
  401.         4.  Click on the CLEANTBS.INF file with your RIGHT mouse button.
  402.     5.  Choose 'Install' from the list of options.
  403.         6.  Once you shut down the computer after running the CLEANTBS.INF 
  404.         file, the TBS-2000 drivers will be removed from the system.  If
  405.         you turn the computer back on with the card still in the computer,
  406.         your system will recognize the TBS-2000 as a new install.  If you
  407.         do not wish to re-install the TBS-2000, be sure to remove the 
  408.         card from the computer after running the .INF and shutting down.
